What is Moving Matter(s)?

Growing up, I would visit my dad’s family in Puerto Rico. As soon as I smelled the warm air and heard my family’s full bodied laughs, something shifted in my body and I felt a little lighter. Once while driving on the notoriously packed roads near San Juan, every car was laying on the horn without stopping. It was a sensory onslaught, and as a kid I was extremely sensitive to loud sounds. But these horns were different, people were pumping out patterns and long held holds like the drone of a lazy bee, as if it was just part of the way of being.

My dad, typically the safest and least aggressive driver, joined them without hesitation. Hand on the horn for minutes at a time — the craziest part? He was laughing! I asked him why it was funny, why the horn if it is clearly doing nothing? His answer has stuck with me.

He turned around from the driver’s seat, hand still on the horn, and told me, “Sound moves matter, so if we keep honking, people will eventually move”.

Now naturally, that is not how traffic works.

But it is how sound works, how the vibration of our own breath when we hum, drone, and chant soothes our nervous system. It is how the vibrations of the crystal bowls seemingly penetrate and echo inside our skulls and weave their vibrations into the vibrations of the atoms of our bodies. It is how the subtle vibrations of the human body emanate from our hands into whatever we touch - another human, a plant, a pet, a car.

Meet Elena

Thank you for being here! My name is Elena López, I am a pisces sun, leo moon and cancer rising (if this doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s okay too!). I completed my E-RYT 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Sukha Yoga in Austin, TX under the loving guidance of Erinn Arizcorreta and Mark Herron. I am also certified in Quantum Sound Method with Brooke Lyons and am a certified Usui Reiki I practitioner through Awakening Transformation with Tianna Roser.

For over three years, I’ve been teaching and sharing my offerings with the world! For the past several years, I’ve been sharing practices rooted in movement, meditation, sound, breath, and embodied awareness. My love of movement first began in the dance studio, but everything shifted when I stumbled into a Bhakti yoga class in Portland, Oregon and immediately felt at home.

Bhakti, or devotional yoga, became a catalyst for learning how to return to myself after years of struggling with body image, anxiety, and depression. Over the past 12 years, my practice has been shaped by teachers who lead with compassion, integrity, and the belief that yoga, meditation, breath, sound, and energy work are ancient technologies that help us deepen our relationship to ourselves and find steadiness within the chaos of life.

My offerings are grounded in a trauma-informed approach that supports the nervous system through practices of presence, regulation, reflection, and rest. My intention is not to “fix,” but to create spaces where people can reconnect to themselves with greater clarity, openness, and ease. When we connect with ourselves and our value system, we can move with integrity in the world around us.

When we are in flow with ourselves, we’re in flow with the world around us.
